Candidates should have prior or current work experience and/or voluntary work experience
within a fire related role
Candidates who are employed in the fire safety industry should be able to demonstrate relevant prior learning through the achievement of relevant training
Candidates are also required to have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills relevant to the role of a Fire Door Inspector. This would include the ability to write short reports, make basic calculations for measurements and quantities and to communicate effectively, in a range of ways, with colleagues and line managers.

This 3 Day Course is designed to equip technicians and operatives with a UK recognised qualification that demonstrates their competency to carry out routine inspection, data collection and management of fire resistant doors.
DAY 1 - 0900 - 1600
AM - The course begins with a module on the fundamentals of fire prevention and fire spread, and in particular the role of ‘Passive’ and ‘Active’ fire protection measures. The introductory module continues with a review of fire compartmentation, fire spread, protection of escape routes, and means of escape.
PM - We look at the compliance frameworks for fire door inspection, the regulatory environment and how organisations meet these specific challenges. We undertake specific modules which examine the individual component parts of fire doors and fire door sets and takes the candidate through the essential knowledge and skills they will require to examine, test, record and report against these component parts.
DAY 2 - 0900 - 1600
We examine and develop the necessary skills and underpinning knowledge to carry out the on-site surveying and inspection of FR Door sets and assemblies, candidates will undertake 10 modules covering the essentials of fire door inspection and are required to successfully complete the knowledge tests for each module.
Candidates undertake a moderated knowledge test which consists of a bank of 50 questions with an expected pass threshold of 80%
DAY 3 - 0900 - 1400
The course continues with the delegates demonstrating their skills to inspect fire door sets, assemblies and Nominal Doors and record and report their findings so that maintenance operatives can carry out the required remedial activities to a specified and agreed standard.
Each candidate will be observed and assessed undertaking a FR Door Inspection. The observation will be recorded and submitted as part of the evidence trail of competency for the candidate and will assist the moderator to make their decision.
